Property consultants, GVA Grimley has joined the UK Green Building Council (UK GBC) and become part of the organisation that is bringing clarity, consistency and leadership on sustainability to the property sector in the UK.
The firm’s decision to join the UK Green Building Council is part of its wider commitment to the environment and coincides with the firm’s current application to achieve the Environmental Management System (EMS) standard ISO 14001 by the end of 2008. This builds on the firm's recent appointment of Miles Keeping as GVA Grimley’s Head of Sustainability, who continues to co-ordinate and promote GVA Grimley’s sustainability capabilities and produce the firm’s well received research reports.
Miles Keeping, Director at GVA Grimley said: “GVA Grimley has a clear commitment to sustainability and we demonstrate this everyday with our own environmental policies and through the advice we offer to all our clients, including occupiers, developers, investors and public sector clients on a broad range of sustainable issues.
“We’re delighted to be joining the UK Green Building Council. Given that we offer advice across the whole property lifecycle, we shall be taking a very active role as a member and work with UK GBC to improve guidance and clarity on every aspect of green construction.”
The UK GBC aims not just to reduce the environmental impact of buildings, but to address the broader issues associated with delivering a sustainable built environment. The Council’s objectives include:
- To campaign for action, by government, industry and any other body who has a role to play in delivering sustainability in the built environment
- To produce a roadmap to a sustainable built environment, setting targets and identifying what needs to be done by who and by when
- To help forge a new partnership between government, industry and other stakeholder group
- To bring cohesion to the green building movement and provide clarity and a coordination of effort
- To help industry and other decision makers play their part in creating more sustainable buildings, both new and existing
- To promote sharing of evidence-based technical knowledge, encourage research and innovation and the spread of best practice
GVA Grimley continues to produce informative and cutting edge environmental research which supports the firm’s business units and clients. Recent research reports include: How Green is My City and the Sustainable Investment Survey.
