NEW YEAR – NEW NAME FOR GVA LAMB & EDGE, NOW GVA GRIMLEY

17/12/2008

Newcastle-based commercial property adviser GVA Lamb and Edge is to change its trading name to match that of the national brand GVA Grimley, from January 2009.

Widely known and well respected within the regional marketplace for over 130 years, Lamb & Edge merged with GVA Grimley in January 2006 to become one of the largest commercial property firms in the North and the north-east office of GVA Grimley; one of the largest property advisers in the UK with 12 offices, over 1,200 staff and an annual turnover for 2006/7 of £148 million.

Since the merger, GVA lamb & Edge’s annual turnover in the north-east has increased from around £3 million to over £5 million in the last financial year. In the same period the office has increased by 20% to over 60 staff.

Mike Cuthbertson, Regional Senior Director said: “Three years ago we celebrated becoming part of a business that shared the same drive and values as our own. Since that time our work has expanded at every level, and our highly experienced teams are now often part of national projects. The name change to GVA Grimley recognises the way in which we act as one firm. It also provides an ideal platform to expand our business in the region even further.”

Mike Cuthbertson continued: “When we merged with GVA Grimley we chose to retain Lamb & Edge in our name because of the long-standing reputation it had established in the north east. Now we have decided to move even further forward and adopt the GVA Grimley name, harnessing the additional strengths this brings. We believe that over 130 years of high quality service will be enhanced by GVA Grimley’s leading national reputation.”

GVA Grimley Managing Director Malcolm Whetstone said: “GVA Lamb & Edge is a valuable part of our UK operation. The success of the merger is reflected in the numbers of new services and new staff now based in the Newcastle offices, particularly our new planning team of four who joined from lawyers, Ward Hadaway. The Lamb & Edge merger was a wholly positive move for GVA Grimley, and the seamless transition is being recognised now with the adoption of the GVA Grimley brand.

“The north east firm has benefited from high quality, motivated staff and a growing number of clients in the last two years. We expect these strengths to grow even further in the future.”

The firm is advising on some of the largest development and regeneration schemes in the north east including the former S & N Brewery site and East Pilgrim Street in Newcastle, the former Vaux Brewery and Cherry Knowle Hospital sites in Sunderland, Middlehaven in Middlesbrough, North Shore in Stockton and Victoria Harbour in Hartlepool.
