Project outline The Administrators of Mitchell Shackleton & Co Ltd, manufacturers of large crankshafts for marine purposes and generator turbines, made the difficult decision to close the facility in Patricroft, Manchester when a buyer for the firm could not be identified. GVA Grimley was instructed to act as agents for the Administrators to dispose of the plant and machinery used in production, which included a number of Schmalz grinders, two rare Churchill G-type grinders, large capacity crankpin turning, grinding and milling equipment, together with more traditional manually controlled machines. GVA Grimley disposed of the equipment while closely adhering to the premise departure deadline. All assets were sold within a small-specialised market by way of a private treaty, in which most of the modern machinery was bought by purchasers in the UK, Europe and USA. |

How GVA Grimley added value GVA Grimley offered disposal advice based on knowledge of the end user market for highly specialised engineering equipment. The disposal of this large capacity plant and machinery was achieved through worldwide publicity driven by the gvaplant.com website and supported by conventional advertising media including a targeted worldwide mailshot. GVA Grimley’s sale experience in the market for used machine tools and its negotiation with potential purchasers enabled the maximisation of asset value for the Administrators of Mitchell Shackleton & Co Ltd. |
